100K Counterfeit Ugg Boots Scam Closed Down

A huge counterfeiting scam which conned shoppers into buying fake Ugg boots has been shut down.

A husband and wife made nearly £100,000 selling replicas imported from China.

Habib and Aisha Melloul, both 28, set up an online shop called Ugg Love selling the boots for £88.50 a pair. They normally cost around £100.

They were caught when investigators swooped on an open-air market in London where Habib was touting for business.

He was last week jailed for a year and his wife given a six-month suspended sentence. The pair spent the cash on meals and expensive clothes. Trading standards investigators in Brent, North London, called it a "sophisticated" fraud.

Spokesman Bill Bilon said: "This was a substantial enterprise to make profit from counterfeit goods."

Teen urinated in victim’s Ugg boots

A TEENAGER who took a woman’s car, urinated in her Ugg boots and spat over the soft furnishings in her home has been ordered to carry out unpaid work in the  community.

Jack Hurtley had been part of a group of teenagers at the victim’s home in Shalford while she was away on holiday on June 23, Guildford magistrates heard.

Appearing in court on Thursday last week, the 18-year-old admitted two counts of taking a motor vehicle without consent, two counts of driving without a licence, two counts of driving with no insurance and one charge of criminal damage.

Prosecuting, Jonathan Ellis said the teenagers had managed to access the property through a friend of theirs, who had been given the keys to look after the family cat while the owner was away.

“A witness called the police at about 7.30pm after he spotted the victim’s cars, a Mini Cooper and a Peugeot 306, being raced up and down the street,” Mr Ellis told the court. “He knew that his neighbour was away so he was extremely concerned for her property.”

After Hurtley was arrested, the prosecutor said, police discovered urine in the victim’s Ugg boots uk and saliva covering a number of cushions and walls in her home.

Mr Ellis said the Mini Cooper was not damaged in any way and there was no sign of a forced entry. “The victim confirmed to the police that she had not given anyone else permission to drive,” he added.

The prosecutor said the cost of a new pair of Ugg boots would be £125 and asked for £60 towards court costs.

The court heard that another teenager had been involved in the incident but he cannot be named for legal reasons.

Defending, John Evans said his client had no previous convictions, although he had received  reprimands for shoplifting, criminal damage and trespassing on the railway.

“This is his first appearance before a court and no doubt it will prove a sobering experience for him,” Mr Evans said. “He knows what he did was stupid and he is very remorseful for his actions and the trouble caused. He is working hard, he has a part-time job and is studying at college.”

Court chairman Rama Sekhawat sentenced Hurtley, of Aldershot Road, Guildford, to a 12-month community order with an unpaid work requirement of 80 hours for taking the car without consent and the criminal damage. He was ordered to pay £60 in court costs and £150 compensation to the victim, as well as being fined £100 for each charge of driving without insurance. His licence was endorsed with eight points. No separate penalty was ordered for the two counts of driving without a licence.

Asked if Australian women were more stylistically challenged than in other countries they travelled to, Woodall said: "You could have a woman in Newcastle, England, and a woman in Newcastle, Australia, and they both might have been left by their husbands, or lost their confidence, and they will both dress in exactly the same way."
